Counter Offers...

Some reasons why it is rarely advisable to accept a counter-offer when seeking new employment:

The same circumstances that now cause you to consider a job change will almost always repeat themselves in the future, even if you accept a counteroffer.

Statistics compiled by the National Employment Association confirm that over 80% of those people who accept a counteroffer are no longer with that company six to twelve months later.

You should not have to threaten to resign before a company will give you what you are worth.

You have now made your employer aware that you are unhappy.  Long-term, loyalty issues could arise.

Where is the money for the counteroffer coming from?  Is it your next raise, early?

When promotion time comes around, your employer may remember who was loyal and who was not.

When times get tough, your employer may begin the cutback with you.  Never seek a new job just to get a raise or promotion from your current employer.  It backfires almost every time.

When you have decided to leave your current employer, just do it.
